The stage
One window, three panes
Twelve tabs, a playlist and a sticky note. Or one window.
Stage left
Scenes
Every scene is one click. Click again to fade it out. Collapsed, the rail keeps its icons.
Centre stage
Browser
D&D Beyond in tabs, with a side-by-side split. ⌘⌥C swaps in the combat tracker, and the pages stay loaded.
Stage right
Notes
Markdown per campaign, one note per session. Cues in your notes start scenes.
Features
Two sides, one session
- A1
Layered scenes
Stack stems at their own volume. They loop until you say stop.
- A2
Smooth crossfades
Equal-power fades, so the room never dips between scenes.
- A3
Sporadic layers
A crow, a creak, a distant bell, at random gaps you set.
- A4
Effects on top
Door slams, dice, dragon roars. Several takes each, so repeats don’t sound canned.
- A5
Ducking
An effect can lower the ambience while it plays, then bring it back.
- A6
Templates
13 scenes and 67 effects to start from. DMC downloads the files for you.
- B1
Combat tracker
Initiative that sorts itself. Type
-7or+5for HP. Death saves, timed conditions, lair actions, undo. - B2
Monster lookup
Find a monster on Open5e and fill in its HP, AC and initiative bonus.
- B3
Prepared encounters
Line up the night’s fights, each with the scene that starts with it.
- B4
Notes that cue
Write
[[scene:Tavern]]and it becomes a button. - B5
A log that writes itself
Scenes, rounds and knockouts land in today’s note, with the time.
- B6
Hotkeys and macropads
⌘K for everything. 32 global hotkeys for any pad that sends F13–F20.
- B7
Your files
Plain JSON, Markdown and audio in
~/DMConsole. Autosave, rolling backups, no account.

Macropad
Put it on a knob
Every hotkey is global, so the pad keeps working while D&D Beyond has focus. Any keyboard or pad that can send F13–F20 will do. This is the Winry315 DMC was built with. Its QMK config is in the repo.
Support acts
Bring your own sounds
DMC ships silent. The Tabletop Audio browser and the scene templates download what you pick, straight from their creators. Or drop any folder of audio into ~/DMConsole/audio, and each subfolder becomes a scene.

Install
Get in
DMC is free and open source. Apple charges $99 a year to notarize an app, so DMC isn’t notarized, and macOS warns you once per version.
- 1Open DMC.dmg and drag DMC into Applications.
- 2Open DMC. macOS says it can’t verify the app. Click Done.
- 3Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to DMC. Confirm with your password.
Comfortable in Terminal? This does the same as steps 2 and 3:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/DMC.appBefore the show
Questions
- Is DMC free?
- Yes. It’s MIT-licensed, with no account, no ads and no tracking.
- Will it run on an Intel Mac?
- No. DMC needs Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) and macOS 15 Sequoia or later.
- Do I need D&D Beyond?
- No. The browser opens any site, and the combat tracker is made for tables that play in person.
- Why can’t I sign in with Google?
- Google blocks its sign-in inside apps’ built-in browsers. Sign in to D&D Beyond with your Wizards account email and password.
- Where does my data live?
- In
~/DMConsoleon your Mac, as plain files. Back it up like any folder. - Does it work offline?
- Sounds, notes and combat do. D&D Beyond and monster lookup need a connection.
